Akava and the negotiation organisations for highly educated employees JUKO and YTN have decided that they, as organisations, will not participate in the demonstration even though they are opposed to the activation model. Loimu members may participate in the demonstration on their own time if they wish to do so. If you decide to participate in SAK’s demonstration against the activation model at Senate Square in Helsinki on 2 February 2018 at 11:00, read further information here.
Without the employer’s permission, you can participate in the demonstration only on your own time (e.g. during your lunch break within the flexitime limits); you may not use working time to participate. In that case, you do not need to separately inform your employer of your participation. However, be careful in this respect: participation during working time could be considered unauthorised absence, which could lead to negative consequences.
Work duties should be arranged so that participation in the demonstration does not cause additional/noticeable harm to the smooth progress of work duties or to fulfilling official duties. The demonstration must not jeopardise work that is necessary for protecting lives, health or property.
The demonstration will begin on 2 February 2018 at 11.00 and, according to information provided by SAK, it will last for a maximum of 1.5 hours.
The employer is under no obligation to pay salary for the time that the employee spends participating in the demonstration.
Loimu does not pay strike pay, travel allowance or compensation for loss of earnings potentially caused by the time spent participating in the demonstration.
If necessary, the member may contact his/her workplace’s personnel representative or shop steward for more detailed instructions.
