Loimu’s Council Approved the Merger Agreement

At its extra meeting on 10 September 2025, Loimu’s Council decided to merge with the Finnish Association of Academic Agronomists. Finnish Association of Academic Agronomists Council will discuss the merger agreement at its meeting on 19 September. Negotiations on the agreement have been ongoing since the spring. According to the agreement, the merger will take place on 1 January 2026.

Under the merger agreement, members of the Finnish Association of Academic Agronomists will join Loimu as of 1 January 2026. From then on, Loimu will also serve as the Akava-affiliated trade union for highly educated professionals in the food sector. The new members will have access to all employment and service-related advisory and legal services, as well as career and other member services provided by Loimu. Loimu will also represent members working in the food sector in advocacy and labour market negotiations: in the private sector through YTN (Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff), in the state, municipal, social welfare and health care, and university sectors through JUKO (Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals), and within the central confederation Akava. Loimu will also be responsible for student activities in the fields of agriculture, food science, nutrition, consumer studies, and environmental sciences.

Currently, Loimu has 17,000 members and the Agronomists’ Union has 5,700 members.
