Updated Sustainable Future Programme Reflects Loimu’s Growing Membership Base
The Sustainable Future Programme sets out Loimu’s policy objectives and recommendations for how Finland can strengthen research, development and innovation (RDI), modernise working life, create new opportunities for sustainable economic growth through the responsible use of natural resources, and safeguard both biodiversity and a livable climate for future generations. The programme was first introduced in 2018, the year after Loimu was founded. Since then, Loimu has grown significantly. As of the beginning of 2026, the union represents not only professionals in the natural, environmental and forest sciences, but also highly educated professionals in the food sector. The addition of these fields and the increasing diversity of Loimu’s membership are reflected in the updated programme.
The updated Sustainable Future Programme was approved by the Loimu Council on 8 May 2026. It outlines Loimu’s positions on a wide range of issues, including education and economic policy, labour market regulation, environmental protection, and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Loimu’s advocacy and public affairs work is guided by the Sustainable Future Programme. Whether we are preparing statements and policy submissions or engaging with decision-makers, our positions are based on the principles and objectives set out in the programme.
