Join Loimu for coffee and conversation at the University of Jyväskylä

Welcome to the University of Jyväskylä campus and enjoy a cup of something warm and a Finnish butter-eye bun (voisilmäpulla) with Loimu’s experts!

At the same time, you’ll hear some highlights from Loimu’s latest salary survey as well as information about the Pay Transparency Directive, which will soon come into effect, and what it will mean in the workplace. We’ll also discuss current topics affecting university employees, including the University of Jyväskylä shop steward elections in November.

Joining us from Loimu will be Maija Holma, Chief Negotiator for the university sector, and Suvi Liikkanen, Head of Career Services, together with Jaana Toomar, Chief Shop Steward at the University of Jyväskylä. We’ll meet on Wednesday October 21st at 4 PM in Ravintola Ylistö (YFL building in the campus).

Please register via this link by Monday, 19 October at the latest so that we can make sure there are enough refreshments for everyone.

P.S. After the coffee event, you can continue the conversation at Loimu members’ own After Work meeting at Café Teeleidi, starting at 6 pm.

A shop steward helps shape everyday working life. Could this role be for you?

Did you know that all union members are eligible to stand as candidates in shop steward elections, and that every member also has the right to vote?

A shop steward serves as a link between employees and the employer. They are actively involved in workplace matters, negotiating with the employer and supporting all union members. A shop steward helps ensure that your voice is heard where decisions are made.

Shop stewards are granted time off from their regular work duties to carry out their representative role and receive a monthly allowance. Both JUKO and Loimu provide extensive training for shop stewards, and the negotiators of Loimu and JUKO are available to support them in their work. Deputy shop stewards are also entitled to participate in training.

Interested in the role, or do you know someone who would be a great fit? Leave your contact details through the link below (in Finnish), and we will get in touch with you or the person you nominate!
