Discounted membership fee

Full members' membership fees take into account various life situations, and it is possible to receive a discount on the membership fee. A member can apply for a discount on their membership fee based on factors such as low income, a period of receiving a scholarship, or parental leave.

Membership fee discounts starting from 1.1.2024

It is possible to receive a discount on the full member’s membership fee. The membership fee discount groups that are valid from 1.1.2024 onwards are:

  • Discount group 1 (gross income under 2900 euros), membership fee 24.25 eur/ month.
  • Discount group 2 (gross income under 2401 euros), membership fee 16.25 eur/ month
  • Discount group 3 (gross income under 1800 euros), membership fee 11.50 eur/ month
  • Discount group 4 (dual-organized professional association members, entrepreneurs, foreign workers), membership fee 16.25 eur/ month

In discount groups 1-3, discounts can be applied for the following reasons: low gross income, unemployment/temporary layoff, scholarship, parental leave, military or civilian service, postgraduate studies. In these discount group is determined based on gross income.

The following members can apply for a discount through discount group 4: members who are dual-affiliated with Finnish Union of University Professors, full-time entrepreneurs or self-employed individuals, as well as members residing or working abroad.

The discount should be applied for through the OmaLoimu service at oma.loimu.fi.

Membership fee discounts for periods before 1.1.2024

Discounts can also be granted retroactively for up to the current month and the six preceding months. The period may include multiple discount criteria.

If you are applying for a retroactive discount for the year 2023, the discount application can only be submitted through OmaLoimu by sending an informal message to the member service. In the message, please specify the period for which the discount is sought, your gross monthly income, and the discount criteria for which you are applying.

The discounted membership fee must be separately applied for.

  • The discount can be granted retrospectively only for the current month and six months preceding it.
  • The period may include several grounds for discount.
  • Only one discount can be granted at a time.

Grounds for the discounted membership fee before 1.1.2024

    • When your gross income is less than EUR 2,000/month, the membership fee is EUR 16.00/month.
    • When your gross income is EUR 2,000–2,600/month, the membership fee is EUR 24.00/month.Income means salary, entrepreneur’s earnings, grants, unemployment allowance, maternity allowance and similar income.  The discounted fee is the same even without the unemployment fund membership.The membership fee includes the unemployment fund membership fee and all Loimu’s services and benefits.
  • Discounted membership fee EUR 16.00/month.
    The membership fee does not include the unemployment fund membership fee.

  • Discounted membership fee EUR 11.00/month.
    You can apply for the discounted membership fee for the grant period if you are not employed and the grant is your only income.
    The membership fee includes the unemployment fund membership fee and all Loimu’s services and benefits. Please note that the work requirement does not accrue during the grant period.

  • If you are on parental leave and your only income is the home care allowance, the discounted membership fee is EUR 11.00/month.

  • Discounted membership fee EUR 7.00/month. Includes the unemployment fund membership fee. The membership fee without the unemployment fund EUR 2.00/month.

  • Discounted membership fee EUR 16.00/month. When moving abroad, please check whether the unemployment fund membership continues.

  • Discounted membership fee EUR 16.00/month.

  • Discounted membership fee EUR 7.00/month. Includes the unemployment fund membership fee. The membership fee without the unemployment fund EUR 2.00/month.

    The studies must be full-time studies and only 50% working hours are allowed simultaneously.  You can be a student member for a maximum of ten years. The study period of the first degree is also included in the ten years.
